Website traffic tracker

Tracking website visitors.

As a part of building out your website you need to keep up with your visitors. By tracking your traffic you’ll have access to locations of where your visitors call home, plus knowing how many people visit your site as it grows.

Getting traffic to your website is the main goal when creating an online business. When you have traffic you have a business where making money is possible. Tracking your traffic is a vital part of your online business and you can do this by paying or using free tracking tools like Google Analytics.

Many websites use Google Analytics because they can’t afford the cost of tracking software tools. Google Analytics is one of the easiest ways to keep track of people visiting your site.

In this session I’m going to walk through the process of getting the Google code and explaining where to place that code on a website. This process is very simple but can be a bit complicated if you’re inexperienced in setting up a website.

Getting started with Google analytics.

If you don’t have a Google account you need to get one. Go to for an account, it will lead to the process of getting your tracking code. Once there follow each step for creating and getting the code you need for tracking your website traffic.

Google code

Next step will be to paste the code into the website.

On the website go to the dashboard. Click on “Appearance” then click on “Editor”. This will open the theme options. On the right you’ll find a list of theme options. Click on the “Header” option. See the screen shots of the website below. Start with the dashboard and continue to completion.
Dashboard to open appearance

When this option opens the page will look like the image below. Look for the “head” and “body” tag, between these tags create a space then paste the google analytics code. The last thing to do is update the website to complete the process. Click on images for a larger view.

Theme options is the heart of the website. This coding makes the site work so if erased the site will be drastically affected or could be destroyed.

Once the code has been installed in your website you can track each visitor to your website by logging into your google analytics account to see how many visitors and where they come from. This graph makes it possible to track your traffic by the hour, day, week or month.
